RESIDENTIAL RECYCLING
Here are a few reasons we should all recycle:
~It is the Law~
Wisconsin actually passed a law in 1990 that "banned" certain items (recyclables) from going into landfills. You can find out more about the Wisconsin law at www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/aw/wm/publications/recycle/lawbrochure.pdf

Recycling -
1 ton of glass saves 10 gallons of oil.
1 ton of plastic saves 1,000-2,000 gallons of gasoline.
1 ton of newspapers saves 100 gallons of gasoline.
1 ton of aluminum saves 2,350 gallons of gasoline. This is equivalent to the amount of electricity used by the typical Wisconsin home over a period of 10 years.
1 ton of iron saves 1 ton of coal.

All residents in Outagamie County are offered every other week recycling collection at the curb with the exception of Buchanan and Freedom which get weekly pick up.
Your recycling can be placed into one container:
Place all your rinsed out glass, aluminum, plastic and tin together with all your recyclable papers into one container. Cardboard should be broken down to 3' x 3' or less in size. Any reusable container that has exterior handles and is between 15-33 gallons is acceptable. The container can NOT weigh more than 50 pounds when set out at the curb. Some municipalities have provided an automated can for your recyclables. Also, if you are using your own container click here and we will mail you a recycling decal to put on your container.
Every resident in Outagamie County is offered recycling pickup at the curb every other week with the exception of the Town of Buchanan which each weekly. It is usually, but not always the same day as your garbage collection.
If you forgot to put out your recyclables on the curb, going on vacation or have extra boxes from moving you can drop off your recyclables free of charge at the Department of Solid Waste.
