Household Hazardous Materials Collection Program Information

HELP KEEP OUR DRINKING WATER CLEAN AND PREVENT ACCIDENTAL POISONING

The Outagamie County Household Hazardous Materials Collection program allows Outagamie County residents, including all citizens of Appleton and New London, to dispose of their household hazardous materials safely and properly, FREE of charge!

Hazardous waste is any discarded material that is a listed hazardous waste or demonstrates the characteristics of being flammable, corrosive, reactive, or toxic.

We do not accept hazardous materials from businesses! Click here for Business Hazardous Materials disposal options.


Our collection program is seasonal and operates May thru October on one Wednesday and one Saturday per month at our satellite collection site at 3414 N French Road, Appleton, WI 54911.

Appointments are required and can be scheduled online by clicking here or by calling (920) 832-5277.


COLLECTION GUIDELINES ARE AS FOLLOWS:

  • Drivers must remain in vehicles.
  • Materials must be brought in boxes or containers. No loose materials will be collected.
  • A maximum of 3 medium sized boxes will be collected.
  • No containers over 5 gallons.
  • No trailer or full truck bed sized loads.
  • Materials must be in trunk, lift gate, or truck bed. No materials will be collected from front or back seats!

LATEX PAINT COLLECTION TOTE NOW OPEN IN OUR RRP

We now accept non-hazardous latex paint in our Resource Recovery Park located at – 1919 Holland Rd, Appleton, WI 54911 – This station is self-service. For ease of use we advise transferring into a pourable container such as a 5-gallon pail or ice-cream bucket prior to arriving. Disposal cost will be $1 per container. This service is available to all.

  • 100% Acrylic

LATEX PAINT IS NON-HAZARDOUS! If you do not wish to bring it in, here are a few other disposal options

SMALL AMOUNT DISPOSAL INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. 1. Remove the lid.
  2. 2. Occasionally stir the paint until dry.
  3. 3. Dispose of dried paint and paint cans in the trash.

LARGE AMOUNT DISPOSAL INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. 1. Line a box with a plastic bag.
  2. 2. Place an absorbent material (kitty litter, oil-dry) on the bottom.
  3. 3. Pour layer of paint – repeat if necessary.
  4. 4. Dispose of dried paint and paint cans in trash.

As an additional Household Hazardous Materials disposal option, Outagamie County residents, including all citizens Appleton and New London, may take their household hazardous materials directly to the Brown County Hazardous Material Recovery (HMR) Facility at 2561 S Broadway, Green Bay, WI 54304.

BROWN COUNTY HMR FACILITY COLLECTION GUIDELINES ARE AS FOLLOWS:

  • Prior to visiting the Brown County HMR Facility, Outagamie County residents are required to fill out the red portion on this form and bring it with them.
  • If you have a large quantity of hazardous materials (a trailer or full truck bed sized load), call (920) 492-4950 to schedule an appointment with a Hazardous Material Recovery personnel. Brown County reserves the right to reject any loads deemed too large to handle during residential hours or you may be required to wait until a slower period.
  • Drivers must remain in vehicles.
  • Materials must be in trunk, lift gate, or truck bed. No materials will be collected from front or back seats!
